About the Item

Unique piece sign by the artist. The sculpture was commissioned for the first time by a customer in Sicily, who had a specific request, namely a tree with purple, turquoise and silver as the dominant colours. From here the choice fell on this splendid tree, the "Jacaranda" which is a species native to South American countries. The dominant shade of its flowering is shades of purple, and the artist thought about combining other colors with it too. The creation of the sculpture required the use of 550 meters of 1 mm section aluminum wire in 3 different colours. Over 16,000 loops were needed to create the canopy, all made by hand, one by one, like the entire sculpture. The base chosen for this sculpture is a beautiful section of olive root, treated with raw linseed oil. All the artist's creations are made with the “Wire Sculpture” technique. The materials I use are various, including copper, brass, galvanized iron, but the one that most characterizes and is predominant in almost all the works is aluminum wire. There are many reasons but to summarize two of them, I would say that the ductility of the material and the availability of a wide range of colors make it preferable to others. Each sculpture is created starting from an actual drawing of how the artist imagines the finished work, followed by a calculation of the quantity of threads necessary for the creation which varies depending on the size and complexity. During creation, each thread, of the hundreds that make up each work, runs from the roots to the leaves without any joining, welding or gluing. The entire structure is self-supporting thanks to the hand-made weaves, like all the rest of the sculpture, with a particular technique that ensures that the structure does not collapse on itself or tend to sag under its own weight. The creation of the canopy or leaf vault occurs thanks to the formation of thousands of loops or convolutions on each thread, which is repeated thousands and thousands of times, one by one, completely and rigorously by hand. Even the use of threads of different colors that the artist often creates with a predominance of one color for the trunk compared to the branches and leaves, requires a specific and very complex technique. All this makes the creation process rather long and painstaking. The bases used all come from reclaimed wood or trees felled due to natural causes. On the same bases, dozens and dozens of small holes are made in which the roots, often very dense and complex, are anchored in an equally complex job.
