Contemporary Black Forged Steel Sculpture Inspired by H. Bertoia - Two Forms 03
About the Item
Black forged steel, abstract sculpture. Composition of two abstract forms sit on a diamond shaped base. The forms are set at angles to one another to express a three dimensional relationship. The two forms create a negative space between them that changes as one moves around the sculpture. The sculpture is considered in form and composition. The forms have been forged and hand beaten creating a black scale and rough surface texture. They are finished with a hot wax that provides a patina that harmonises with the steel.
The sculpture is apart of a series of 4 sculptures utilising the process of forged mild steel. The composition of two abstract figures is continually expressed in Jobst's work. The subject matter being a fascination between positive and negative space through the creation of abstract forms.

Louis Jobst
“Craftsmanship is integral to the core of my work, the physicality and composition of materials underpin my creative practice. My aim is to achieve a balance between form and function”
- Louis Jobst - Louis Jobst is a decorative lighting designer and architect establishing his studio in 2017 in
Hackney, London. Jobst designs and manufactures bespoke and batch produced lighting and
furniture exploring relationships between sculpture, product design and architecture. His work
utilises the inherent qualities of materials expressing the process in which they are made. Jobst’s growing collection of lighting focuses on the dialogue between mass, geometry and proportion. Inspiration comes from architectural components such as arches, columns and monoliths, with reference drawn from early 20th century design and sculpture. Each light has a stacked formation with harmonised proportions and contrasted material qualities. Solid steel and glass mixed with ebonised oak and brass are amongst some of the materials used. The architectural influence is clear with striking geometric silhouettes and heavy robust materials. Jobst describes
his works as “Monuments for the home”. Jobst won the Elle Decoration British Design Award 2017 for accessories and has showcased his new collection at the Design Museum (London), 67 York Street Gallery, Decorex, The London Art Fair and The London Design Fair. Jobst is currently selling his Monument collection at Heal Furniture store UK.

Contemporary Monument Table Lamp - Square in Travertine, Solid Steel and Glass
By Louis Jobst
Located in London, GB
Monument Lamp - Square with Honed Roman Travertine, Solid Steel Billet and handblown Opal Matte Glass
Louis Jobst' Monument Lamp - Square is high quality, bespoke and handmade using solid raw materials. The base is finished with a black patina and cut from 90mm thick steel billet. Markings from the process are visible and intentionally left, exposing the character of the material. A square block of Travertine slots into the steel base. The opal glass diffuser is hand blown with a matte finish.
The concept was to design a lamp triptych (circle, triangle and square) made out of high quality materials for a formal interior space. A triptych of varying forms, colors and textures could create a 'common ground' throughout a space, whilst also working as individual lamps. Inspiration has come from architectural forms such as monoliths and monuments, implemented through the design with heavy, robust materials and simple geometric forms. The lamps consist of stacked shapes, designed like a small column...
