Part of Gudrun Thompson’s Basket Series, Aurvandill’s Toe Basket draws inspiration from the Norse myth where Thor carries Aurvandill across the frozen Elivagar Rivers, eventually casting his frozen toe into the sky to form a star. This piece reimagines traditional organic basket forms in cast bronze, crafted meticulously through the lost wax process. The transformation of a delicate, natural object into an enduring metal sculpture evokes a dialogue between fragility and permanence, mythology and material. This sculpture is new and ships directly from the Artist's studio in California. About Gudrun Thompson: Gudrun Thompson is an American artist based in California whose work explores themes of mythology, archaeology, and history. Initially trained in fiber arts, Thompson has evolved her practice to include cast bronze sculpture, creating pieces that merge ancient narratives with modern materials. Her art reflects a deep fascination with the interplay of texture, form, and storytelling, bridging the tactile qualities of her fiber arts background with the enduring strength of bronze.
