Dancing Spirit, blue organic ethereal cast glass sculpture by Monette Larsen

About the Item

'Dancing Spirit' is a unique cast glass sculpture by the Danish artist, Monette Larsen. Larsen has always been fascinated by the concept of beauty within nature; what makes something beautiful and the characteristics that define it as such. Her work aims to examine the idea that what we perceive as striking and attractive in nature, is linked to our conscious and unconscious recognition of the inherent patterns and structures that are present. Drawing on the wonders in the living world, Larsen looks at the molecular structure of her subject matter to form the initial foundations for her work; the nanoscale and mathematics which are discovered from close observation. Each of her artworks are intended to be a reflection of this living world, a reminder of the splendour of what surrounds us, with the hope that also, the viewer creates links to their own experiences. In the artist’s own words; “My current work is influenced by the underlying structures of corals, their shape, growth and movement in the sea. In my sculptural pieces, I explore the mathematics of the coral shape, known as a hyperbolic plane, I create shapes that grow into its own during the process. I add layers of complexity through the making process by refining and altering the piece like the forces of nature alters the perfect model in the natural world” Larsen has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the UK. She has artworks in the permanent collections of the Imagine Museum, St Petersburg, Florida, USA and the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, UK.

  • Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
    Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
