Floating Twist, teal blue cast glass ethereal organic artwork by Monette Larsen

About the Item

'Floating Twist' is a unique cast glass sculpture by the Danish artist, Monette Larsen. Larsen has always been fascinated by the concept of beauty within nature; what makes something beautiful and the characteristics that define it as such. Her work aims to examine the idea that what we perceive as striking and attractive in nature, is linked to our conscious and unconscious recognition of the inherent patterns and structures that are present. Drawing on the wonders in the living world, Larsen looks at the molecular structure of her subject matter to form the initial foundations for her work; the nanoscale and mathematics which are discovered from close observation. Each of her artworks are intended to be a reflection of this living world, a reminder of the splendour of what surrounds us, with the hope that also, the viewer creates links to their own experiences. In the artist’s own words; “My current work is influenced by the underlying structures of corals, their shape, growth and movement in the sea. In my sculptural pieces, I explore the mathematics of the coral shape, known as a hyperbolic plane, I create shapes that grow into its own during the process. I add layers of complexity through the making process by refining and altering the piece like the forces of nature alters the perfect model in the natural world” Larsen has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the UK. She has artworks in the permanent collections of the Imagine Museum, St Petersburg, Florida, USA and the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, UK.

  • Poseidon, a Metallic Blue, Petrol & Teal Green Glass Sculpture by Bethany Wood
    By Bethany Wood
    Located in London, GB
'Poseidon' is a unique artwork by the British artist, Bethany Wood. An equal passion for painting physically inspires how she controls and manipulates her glass. Recreating the fleeting nature of brush strokes, Wood’s molten colours traverse across the surface of her glass canvases blending in a myriad of hues. Unlike their flat painterly counterparts, these combine and merge, forming spontaneous watery and lava like abstract relief flourishes. Taking inspiration from a wide range of sources, Wood’s influences are taken directly from the world around us, elements of the inner-city sit alongside expansive landscapes. Reoccurring themes are Graffiti & Urban Culture, exploration & travel. In the artist's own words; "As a multidisciplinary artist, I have begun to merge my two artistic passions, painting and Glassmaking. I like to express myself with the fluidity of the material. The Directional arrangement of a colour palette can form the depth of an abstract Landscape. I use my own paintings as a reference whilst making in the hot shop. Each individual artwork from my series has been inspired by a specific place. Serendipity of abstraction has always been an inspiration for me; the coincidental elements which catch the eye of the viewer. The palette, composition and depth I have attained are taken from nature, with a bold but elegant swipe of my own personal, Expressionist style" Rising glass star, Wood graduated from De Montfort...

  • Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
    Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
