About the Item
Erling and Karin Heerwagen were Danish ceramicists who met while working in the workshop of renowned artist Bjørn Wiinblad in the 1960s. In 1968, they married and established their own studio on the island of Langeland, where they created a distinctive body of hand-sculpted stoneware pieces ranging from functional vessels to large figurative sculptures.
This little bird is a fine example of their unique work, celebrated for its playful yet refined character—organic forms, expressive glazes, and a joyful sense of individuality define each creation. Blending craftsmanship and imagination, the Heerwagens developed a singular aesthetic that stands apart within Scandinavian studio ceramics, making their pieces highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
