About the Item
Eye catching sculpture made by Dolf Breetvelt, The Netherlands 1964. This beautiful hand carved sculpture is interesting from all sides. From every angle, your imagination will see something differently. It’s an harmonical sculpture, beautiful organic crafted solid elm providing an extra dimension due to its honey-coloured patina. A very nice large sized piece, but not too large so it can still fit on a side table or credenza for example. The sculpture is in very good original condition with a beautiful age-related patina. Highly decorative piece of art which can provide your interior with that little extra character.
Adolf (Dolf) Breetvelt attended the academy in The Hague. Before the war he was an artist in the former Netherlands East Indies. He was on friendly terms with Piet Ouborg. He worked in a surrealistic style. After the war, Breetvelt came back to the Netherlands, and produced his first abstract works. Initially surrealistic in nature with a dash of geometry, Breetvelt later became increasingly more an abstract expressionist. From 1951 he also produced sculptures in wood and metal. He had a solo exhibition in Fodor in Amsterdam in 1963. This sculpture is one of the pieces he made in that period. It is not signed by has Breetvelts characteristics written all over it.
