Wouter Dam ceramic sculpture Netherlands 2003

About the Item

Unique object Nr 2 designed and made by Wouter Dam in the Netherlands in 2003. A beautiful organic sculpture that looks interesting from every angle. Made of orange glazed porcelain, in excellent condition. Signed WD'03 on the side. The Dutch ceramist Wouter Dam (1957), together with fellow students such as Babs Haenen, Geert Lap, Barbara Nanning and Pauline Wiertz, is considered one of the most successful students of Jan de Vaart and the ceramics program of the Rietveld Academy in the late 1970s. From the 1990s onwards, Dam's work has developed from classically designed and somewhat subdued vase shapes into an expressive oeuvre in which the sculptural qualities of a vase shape become abstract. He does not make design, design or autonomous art, but autonomous ceramics. Dam combines traditional crafts with free sculptural ceramics. To create his elegant, undulating and abstract sculptures he begins at the wheel, throwing numerous stoneware cylinder, vase and bowl shapes. These he cuts and joins together to form ribbon-like shapes that twist and flow.  Each piece is unique and evolves over time. Wouter approaches the work  intuitively, working with the ribbons of clay, influenced by previous works and natural forms such as aquatic shapes and creatures, plant seeds and floral buds. He adds subtle colour by way of matte pigments that are sprayed onto the surface to enhance shape and shadow.

  • Dolf Breetvelt Sculpture in Solid Elm Netherlands, 1963
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Eye catching sculpture made by Dolf Breetvelt, The Netherlands 1964. This beautiful hand carved sculpture is interesting from all sides. From every angle, your imagination will see something differently. It’s an harmonical sculpture, beautiful organic crafted solid elm providing an extra dimension due to its honey-coloured patina. A very nice large sized piece, but not too large so it can still fit on a side table or credenza for example. The sculpture is in very good original condition with a beautiful age-related patina. Highly decorative piece of art which can provide your interior with that little extra character. Adolf (Dolf) Breetvelt attended the academy in The Hague. Before the war...

  • Giacomo Onestini ceramic sculpture Italy 1970
    By Giacomo Onestini
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Beautiful ceramic sculpture designed by Giacomo Onestini made in his own atelier in Italy in 1970. It has a combination of matte and shiny glazed surfaces. The back and sides of the sculpture have a textured surface with shades of gray, green, and sometimes turquoise. On the front, there's a carved-out section that's smooth and glazed with red and gold hues. It's a very appealing and intriguing piece. You can find the artist's signature, "Onestini," on the side of the sculpture. This piece was created in the artist's personal studio. Very nice large sized, heavy piece and in excellent condition. After graduating as a master ceramist, Onestini moved to San Marino where he found employment at the "Marmaca" ceramics factory. Around the end of the 1950s, he moved to Salerno and began working with the "Ernestine...
