About the Item

Handcrafted geometric concrete sculpture Formworks 3 by Spanish designer Manolo Menéndez. It can serve as a centerpiece, a fruit bowl, or simply as a striking minimalist artwork. It is part of a collection of ten sculptural pieces conceived in a minimalist architectural language, preserving the connection and familiarity with industrial materials and their inherent qualities. The formal exploration and the use of the right angle stand out as essential components of his work. Formworks is the technique Menéndez employs to investigate fundamental geometry, where sculpture and volume emerge from the material itself, refined down to the smallest details. Manolo Menéndez (1983) Born in Tenerife, he is a photographer and filmmaker by training with a long artistic career in this field, having exhibited his work in Istanbul, Rotterdam, Madrid, and Barcelona. His approach to design began through model making, and later in 2015, he made a series of geometric sculptures with wood. It was in 2020 that he leaps concrete, creating the Unvolumen project with minimalist lines with brutalist inspiration halfway between art and design. Manolo’s way of working is by making moulds that later will be destroyed in order to extract the unique and unrepeatable final piece; an artisanal work inspired by the world of construction.
