About the Item

Contemporary handcrafted rubber resin geometrical sculpture Formworks #4 by Spanish designer Manolo Menéndez. Can be used as a fruitholder or simply as a nice minimal sculpture. Subtle references to the works of the Basque sculptors Oteiza and Chillida can be appreciated. A collection of 10 sculptural pieces designed in a minimalist architectural language that maintains the links and familiarity with industrial materials and their resources. The formal search and the use of the right angle stand out as an essential component of his work. Formworks is the technique Menéndez uses to investigate the fundamental geometry where sculpture and volume are generated from the material itself, refined down to the smallest elements. Manolo Menéndez was born in Tenerife in 1983. Photographer and filmmaker by training, with a long artistic career in this field, having exhibited his work in Istanbul, Rotterdam, Madrid, and Barcelona. His approach to design began through model making, and later in 2015, he made a series of geometric sculptures with wood. It was in 2020 when he leaps concrete, creating the Unvolumen project with minimalist lines with brutalist inspiration halfway between art and design. Manolo’s way of working is by making molds that leave the condemned piece, being necessary to destroy them to obtain the final work. Manolo currently combines his artistic career both in photography and sculpture.
