About the Item

'Going Round in Circles II' is a unique glass sculptural vessel by the British artist, Sarah Wiberley. By bringing contemporary style to the traditions of glassblowing used in the making of her hand made vessels & artworks, Wiberley introduces a fresh approach to the concept of embellishment, decoration and ornament. In the artist’s own words: 'Decoration and ornament have long been disregarded and seen as superfluous to function. Downgraded from a definition of luxury, ornament is often treated with suspicion, its intention to deceive. Adverse to this view, ornament is also a strong and effective conveyor of history, tradition, and culture’ The focus of Wiberley's glassmaking revolves around her love of colour. Often acknowledging the traditions of glass making within her style as well as technique; she has adapted many traditional techniques to suit her expressive style and balances the fluidity of glass forms with her imagery and pattern work. Wiberley began glassmaking in 2001 during her studies at The Surrey Institute of Art and Design, graduating with 1st class honours 3D Design; Glass in 2004. It was during this time she began to discover her love of combining imagery with glass forms, experimenting with glass layers of different opacities. She went on to work for a number of glass studios honing her craft before embarking on a masters degree at The Royal College of Art, graduating in 2011 from the Ceramics and Glass department. Here she had the opportunity to combine her own style with the skills she had learnt over the previous years. Wiberley continues to develop her work in her own London-based studio, she has exhibited her work in Europe as well as in the UK.

No Limits #2, a Grey & Amber Abstract Glass Sculpture by Maria Bang Espersen
By Maria Bang Espersen
Located in London, GB
‘No Limits #2' is a unique glass sculpture by the Danish artist, Maria Bang Espersen. Maria Bang Espersen works around the idea that all things are malleable, like glass, and that nothing can be permanently defined. Her experimental sculptures are therefore not only an approach but also a statement; one that states to never get caught up in the restrictive norms or to obey established hierarchies. Essentially, her works in glass, are a play with the possibilities of the material and an attempt to expand the viewer’s understanding of her chosen medium. Although static and solid in their final sate, Espersen stretches, pulls and bends her glass, resulting in works that appear soft and almost possible of languid movement. Her chosen sweets confectionery colour palette entices and draws the onlooker towards the artwork, which deliciously glisten. Espersen studied glass and ceramics at Engelsholm Højskole, in Denmark, continuing her studies at the Kosta School of Glass in Sweden, The Royal Danish Academy of Design, and Haystack Mountain...

Vintage Mid Century Murano Glass Bowl in Matte Green with Orange Accents
Located in Milano, IT
Many are the different types of glass created by master makers on the Venetian island of Murano. From air-thin vases to expressive sculptures, also massive objects with deep and vivid hues of colour represent the great skills of glassmakers. The present bowl, most certainly made with a hint of uranium in the glass fuse to give it the peculiar greenish tone, is a perfect example of how attractive massive Murano glass can be. It can be dated approximately to the mid 1960s, based on the style and colors of the piece. Unsigned, as most pieces of that era, it shows great craftsmanship, and is preserved in beautiful conditions. No cracks, dents or damages of sort are visible, and just a light patina proves it is actually a 50 years old object.
