About the Item

Helena Tynell is a Finnish female designer. After graduating from the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Helsinki in 1943, she began her career as a designer at TAITO as an assistant to her future husband, lighting designer Paavo Tynell. In 1946, she started designing glass at Riihimaen Lasi, where she remained for 30 years until the factory closed in 1976. This piece was presented at an exhibition at the Art Gallery in Helsinki in 1966 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Riihimaen Lasi. It is a three-dimensional, sculptural work made of cast glass. Signed 'HELENA TYNELL RIIHIMAEN LASI OY -69', manufactured in 1969.
