About the Item
Illuminated helix-form floor sculpture entitled "Ice Prince" by artist Terry Balle, circa 1980.
Constructed of stratified PMMA optical acrylic resin.
A single lightbulb mounted to the underside provides an ethereal luminescence.
Balle notes: PMMA has excellent optical clarity, better than most silicon glass and the same as optical glass. PMMA also has excellent weather-ability and has been used outdoors since the 1940s. Compared to silicon glass PMMA has ten times the impact resistance, and half the weight.
