About the Item
Ice Vug in Turquoise I is a unique handblown sculpture by the British artist Samantha Donaldson. A charming ethereal sculpture with a glacier white exterior and rich turquoise cavernous interior. Taking inspiration from rock formations, geodes and the treasures that can be found deep beneath the surface of the earth, Donaldson creates sublime, stylised representations. Her soft white amorphic forms are enhanced by their contrasting inner splash of colour.
Inspired by the internal structures of naturally occurring geodes, it was during these investigations that Donaldson created a series of work influenced by the exploration of the 'vug', which is the internal space within a geode. A continuous theme to her work, the aim being to draw the viewer into the internal movement of each unique piece.
In her own words;
“Rock collections fascinate me. I am particularly interested in ‘Lapidaries’, the professional craftsmen that became skilled at cutting precious stones to obtain the best optical effect.
I am therefore exploring the parallels between this and my work, individual specimens capture the succession of events and hint at the transformation to its present state.
Minerals like agate form under intense pressure and heat, I am intrigued by the way that such multi-layered and multi-coloured order forms out of such chaos.
An associated interest of mine is ‘Stratigraphy’, the study of rock layers and layering. Deposition of one layer is separated from the next by a clear interval or change in texture, colour, or mineralogy. Layers may merge with one another so that boundaries between them are unclear.
As I cut and polish the surface of my specimens, my excitement of enquiring cold work techniques liberate the curious lore of this precious material and bring my forms to life. I thrill to see the freshly exposed interior, reveal the captured fragments of the moment of its formation.
I have always been particularly interested by the interactions between humans and objects, how one encounters an unfamiliar object of desire”.

Wave Lounge by Eduard Locota. Turquoise-Blue Acrylic Glass Sculptural Design
By Eduard Locota
Located in Timisoara, RO
Once upon a time, in the middle of the Ocean, on a very still day, while the sun was shining, a wave has appeared. Why did the wave appear exactly at that place and time? Nobody knows.
What we know for centuries, is that the Ocean is never still, and always has waves at the horizon. We know that a wave is only energy. Energy transmitted through particles of water, causing it to swirl into an endless circular motion. And if not obstructed, waves have the potential to travel across an entire ocean basin.
The story of the Wave Lounge was born once upon a time, while gazing at the never-ending blue horizon. Inspired by the vast energy of the wind and sea strongly colliding together, the idea of this monolithic functional sculpture was thus born.
The concept
As a piece of the Ocean, a strong presence of mass was needed in the style of Wave Lounge. The twist of a wave near braking point, encapsulated in time, that will completely charm the viewer’s eyes.
With a total neglect for traditional design, this fully functional design piece will undoubtedly generate emotions. Be prepared to take a large slice of wave right into your home.
Build process
Build fully by hand, with acrylic glass as a primary material. For each piece, literally over 200 Kg of material was used for this monolithic functional artwork. it is necessary to pour over 60 colored layers of liquid acrylic...
