About

Magnificent stainless steel sculpture by renown artist Itzhak Shmueli. Signed on top "A/P I. Shmueli" ITZHAK SHMUELI 1941-1994 Sculptor, Painter and Product Designer Born Baghdad, Iraq, eighth of ten children family Immigrated to Israel, 1950 Studied at the Neve Hadassa boarding school At the age of sixteen he left the school and went to live with the fisherman in Eilat, where he began to draw and paint. He served in the Israeli Marines for two years and after completing military service became a sailor and traveled the world for four years. Wherever the ship anchored, he visited galleries and museums in order to understand and learn about different cultures, thus compensating for his lack of formal education. On one occasion, when his ship docked in Eilat, he met the movie crew filming the movie “Hor be Levana” and was asked to be an extra. That meeting with creative people from Tel Aviv people led him to the famous Cassit café on Dizengoff Street, where he became acquainted with well known artists such as Uri Zohar, Shmulik Krauss, Itzhak Dantziger, Alexander Pen, Ygal Tumarkin, Haim Hefer, Itze Mambush, Dan Ben Amotz, Amos Kenan, Uri Lifshitz and many others. At the Cassit he exhibited a huge oil painting that served as his introduction as an artist and gave him the opportunity to participate in an exhibition at the Helena Rubinstein Museum in 1965. In 1965 he met Haica at the office of the architects Arieh and Eldar Sharon. They married and in 1975 left Tel Aviv to settle in the Ein Hod Artists Village with their three children, Eran, Yael and Hed, who also became artists.
