About the Item

Fantastic sculpture by Joaquin Garcia Donaire made in his own atelier in Spain, 1960s. This abstract sculpture is made with a fantastic and unique shape. It is truly special from every angle, drawing inspiration from the male and female form. It is clear that Donaire was a master in his craft, skillfully capturing the essence of human bodies. His artistry was influenced by both male and female figures and the dynamic interaction between them. Donaire's passion for sculpting began at a young age when he took on modeling lessons at the age of eight, following the guidance of his uncle, also an sculptor. Throughout his career he focused on themes such as mother and child, torso's, love, and athletes. The sculpture is made from solid teak elements and stands on a black painted wooden pedestal. Joaquin Garcia Donaire, since 1984, he has held a Doctorate in Fine Arts and has been extensively dedicated to teaching, nearly twenty years of which he spent as the Chair of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he is now an emeritus professor. In 1985, he accepted a position as a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. He has won the most important national and international sculpture awards: 3rd Medal of the National BBAA Exhibition of 1954, the Grand Prix of Rome in 1956, gold medal and first medal of the National BBAA Exhibition of 1957, bronze medal for sculpture at the V Alexandria Biennial of 1963, Sculpture Prize in the National Competitions of 1965, etc. He has participated in the most prestigious exhibitions, such as the New York World's Fair of 1964, the Brussels World's Fair of 1958, the III Ibero-American Art Biennial of 1981, etc. His works are spread across various museums and private and public collections, both in Spain and around the world, and his monumental work is also widely present, for example, in the streets of Madrid.
