Livio Seguso, Visionary Early Abstract Bust Sculpture, Clear Glass, Signed

About the Item

This sculpture of Livio is an early work. It carries the seed of his vision, 1970s. Livio started as a great maestro, his figurative pieces of his artist infancy already had a tendency of simplifying the design and reducing the colors. He slowly started researching purity of forms and reducing the colors. He worked then practically only in gray acciao or clear, ending using clear glass only. This piece is from that turning point period, a milestone. Other media artist have followed the same path, however in sculpture and painting there is still a color where the light is reflected. Marble and canvas becomes the boundary where the artist has to stop. This frustration brought Fontana to cut the canvas. Livio path had the opportunity, or the faith, to use a media that allowed him to go beyond any color. He worked with light and transparency. He uses neutral glass and his brush and chisel is the light refraction. There is a breath-taking solo show at the Murano glass museum of him. You can see from the sketches that he knows how light would play with the piece. He was and is a passionate of photography and shared this passion with Carlo Nason. He told me the essence of photographing clear glass, never light the object the beam of light should go on the foreground wall. This Masaccio glass piece is an abstract bust, recalling the metaphysical paintings of Carra and De Chirico. It's just one curve creating several lens effects. There is a nice photo showing how the background Tuscan landscape is reversed on the head. Livio has passed the point of being an glass artist, he is an artist that uses glass, in the last decades he started using mixed-media, with perfect execution of marble, granite, wood, glass. This sculpture is for collector and art lovers. Needs a special place.

Massiccio fish with the rainbow cane sequence of Livio Seguso. This sequence was used in several pieces, bowls to be highlighted with lens effect of the piece. The fish body acts like a magnifying lens and the colors are moving when looking at the piece. See the video. Part of Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi. Bisazza, the famous luxury mosaic company, continued Seguso models for the first part of the 1990s. Then closed the furnace and continued to focus with his mosaic collection. Gold Leaf

Seguso for Bisazza Pair Mustard Murano Pulegoso Vase Gold Rim, 1993 Signed
By Seguso, Bisazza Vetro, Livio Seguso, Seguso & Cenadese, Seguso Vetri d'Arte
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Set of two splendid Pulegoso vase. One round and the other tall. The round is lighter and the tall darker tone of mustard. Perfectly executed Pulegoso finish. This is Murano Crucible Pulegoso. The mouth has a rim with external gold leaf difficult to notice because it does not contrast with the background. Just magnificent and rare set. At first I believed, because of the round shape, that Bisazza was dovetailing Carlo Scarpa original round shape from the 1930s. When I was able to see the pieces and see the year, then all came clear. In the second part of the 1980s there was a re-discover in Interior design of the Native American arts. In particular, the Navaho products. As Carlo Scarpa took his inspiration from Japanese shapes, here Bisazza translated in glass the Navaho pottery art. Here the reason for a hearty color, these orange toned Puligoso is part of the Seguso tradition. Colors that are not in high fashion. This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi.
