About the Item

Work by the artist Marcello Avenali (1912-1981). Steel and glass sculpture oriented to the reflected channeling of light, made in 1969. In 1970 it was multiplied by an installation for Banco Santo Spirito (Banca del Vaticano) at the headquarters in Rome in Piazza del Quirinale, then dismantled in 1980. Production of glass "Manifattura Specchi e Vetri di Felice Quintin" (Florence). Performed in n. 36 specimens, the structure was placed in correspondence of two large windowed rooms (180 x 360 cm.). Features: 60 cm diameter circular steel band, on the external side it has n. 12 brass supports to which mobile steel slats are fixed, on the internal side n. 24 brass supports, each of which is fixed to a movable steel element to support amber colored glass paste parallelepipeds of different shades. The possibility of adjusting all the transparent and reflective elements makes the conformation of the structure and luminous and filtering effects freely variable. The measurement is 60 in diameter with closed slats up to 95 with open slats, with base approximately 100 x 90. Photographs of the time, certificate and evaluation of the foundation, certificate from the glassware manufacturer, photograph of the current base authorized by the Avenali Foundation are available.
