About
Rare and surrealistic cast bronze sculpture by Cosmo Campoli(1923-1996). Part of the post war group of artist nicknamed the Monster Roster whose art focused deeply psychological works that drew on classical mythology and ancient art. Cosmos work "The Birth of Death" was displayed in MOMA's 1959 "Images of Man" show alongside other notable artist such as Karel Appel and Alberto Giacometti. "The Birth of Death" now part of Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago permanent collection.
This work shares a similar theme as MOMA piece. Beautifully cast bronze depicting a head-like figure with arms and legs morphing(giving birth) to an abstract "monster" creature. Inscribed with "Campoli 58" and "2-2 HC"
This is a rare opportunity to own a highly regarded notable Chicago area Mid Century artist work.
