About the Item
Only Breath is a large, metal sculpture by emerging, British Sculptor Sapien (AKA Steve Anwar). It takes inspiration from a poem of the same name by famous Sufi poet Rumi. The abstract sculpture takes apart the layers of what it means to be a breathing human being and contains a segment of the poem, with each blade containing a single letter form punctuated as small holes, allowing air to flow through the work. The hidden verse reads: "Not composed of elements at all, I do not exist"
Sufi poetry speaks to love and unity something so important in these strange times we're all living through. The breath is the centre, it represents oneness, the intangible bridge between mind and body. In many ancient, spiritual traditions the breath stands as a core pillar. When we focus on the breath during meditation we can reach a state of no-mind beyond labels leaving 'only breath'. It can be used as a vehicle or doorway into stillness and silence beyond subjective reality and towards unity, compassion and the quiet whispers of our soul’s deepest callings.
