About the Item
Sculptural industrial silver aluminum filter with a hand-blown glass ball top.
The sculptural piece is created from an aluminum filter with a hand-blown glass ball mounted on top. The glass ball has a flat bottom so it sits firmly on the aluminum filter piece. In order to achieve the sculptural shape, the piece was twisted on an axle. The piece is even in color but the light bounces off the aluminum and gives off different tones. The life-size sculpture is a statement piece that is in the style of industrial design.
The emergence of industrial design is specifically linked to the growth of industrialization and mechanization that began with the industrial revolution in Great Britain in the mid 18th century.
This led to the popularity of modern industrial design, an aesthetic very popular in place like Milan, Italy and New York City where industrial manufacturing boomed and objects were used for art and design purposes. Artists have used these objects as a more sustainable, edgy solution and focal point of their work.
The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the founder and creative director of Interi. The aluminum piece represents a sustainable and industrial contemporary work of old and new.
