'Tempo Allegro' is a unique handblown and sculpted glass artwork by the Danish and British artists, Hanne Enemark & Louis Thompson. Trapped inside the outer shape are a multitude of glass canes, each reaching and traversing the inner space, finding anchor points at various places upon the internal surface. With most white in colour, some are banded with black and have the glistening extra refinement of gold. Tempo is a new body of work about the drama and heat of the moment, the intuitive dialogue between the material and the action of making. The rhythm, pace and time dedicated to create each piece is expressed through the complex and infinite structures that inhabit each organic form. The objects fascinate, mesmerise and captivate the spectator. At the core of these sculptural objects, is the heartbeat of the artists, and their collective creative energy. Since studying simultaneously at the Royal College of Art in 2008, Hanne Enemark and Louis Thompson have worked together successfully on a number of commissions and personal projects, becoming increasingly aware of a common interest in the tension between chaos and order, fragility and strength, internal structure and external form. They have found that taking a more intuitive and performative approach not only results in a magical spectacle but in sculptures that embody their passion for this material with integrity and freshness. Whilst making these pieces Enemark and Thompson were struck by how the pieces powerfully expressed their creative intent and directly seized upon the drama of the heat of the moment, an intuitive and exciting dialogue between the material and the action of making. They are intrigued by how these intricate, internal fragile structures contradict the calm skin and surface of the glass form that encapsulates this magical and energetic inner world. Having exhibited extensively around the globe, Enemark & Thompson have artworks in the permanent collections of the Novotny Glass Museum, Novy Bor, Czech Republic and the Boda Glass Factory, Glasbruk, Sweden. In 2016 Enemark and Thompson took part in a 5 day residency at the Museum of Glass, Tacoma, USA. Hanne Enemark has represented Denmark in the Emerging Artist category at the European Glass Context and in 2012 she won Elle Decoration’s New Designer of the Year Award. She has has worked with glass artists in Denmark, France and the UK and her work regularly features in magazines such as Elle Decoration, Wallpaper magazine and Financial Times. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in private collections in Denmark, UK, Spain, France, Monaco and the USA. One of her pieces is part of the permanent Collection at Ebeltoft Glass Museum. Louis Thompson has exhibited extensively in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan. In 2012 Thompson received two prestigious awards in the UK: British Glass Biennale Winner and the Jerwood Foundation Makers Commission. He has been invited to create installations for various museums and international exhibitions and his work is held in permanent museum collections in Belgium, Germany, Japan, Czech Republic and the V&A Museum in London. Thompson has completed International residencies at the prestigious Museum of Glass in Tacoma, The Glazenhuis Museum in Belgium and most recently at Soneva Art Glass in the Maldives.
