Two "Room Jewels" artglass by the Swedish designer Mona Morales-Schildt, Sweden
About the Item
Two "Room Jewels" artglass by the Swedish designer Mona Morales Schildt (1908-1999) feature cut and polished glass created using the sommerso technique for Kosta. The pieces stand approximately 5.7 cm tall. One is orange-red and pink, signed "ss, 5228," while the other is pink with a bubble inside Kosta, signed "5271."
Mona Morales-Schildt received her education at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. She worked for Gustavsbergs Porcelain Factory as an assistant to Wilhelm Kåge, for Arabia, and from 1958 to 1971, for Kosta Glassworks. At Kosta, she, along with Tyra Lundgren, was one of the first two female artists.
She is best known for the exclusive glass series Ventana, which features heavy glass pieces with enclosed layers of color. The Ventana series began in 1959 and was inspired by the Venetian glass artist Paolo Venini (1896–1959). These pieces are often sculptural, resembling glass sculptures or, as in this case, room jewels. Morales-Schildt is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm
