About the Item
A unique studio glass object from the black glass "Contiguous Fragments" by Joel Philip Myers made in 1980. Myers was born in Paterson, NJ in 1934. He graduated as a M.F.A. from New York State College of Ceramics and in the 1960s, Myers was Director of Design at the Blenko Glass Company. In the 1970ties he became professor of art at Illinois State University. Around this time he started creating unique glass vessels in Marqueterie technique in his own studio. This is a typical early work from the Contiguous Fragment Series. An opaque black glass body, almost reminiscent of pottery, colored shards, perfectly inserted and composed to an abstract work of art. The body iseems to have been frosted by sandblasting. This work is signed, numbered and dated to 1980 and a great example of the work, which was Myers recognition factor until circa 1990. It weighs 2,5 kg.
