About the Item

WW2 Sterling bomber Radio Compass Loop Antenna Rare, unusual and very sculptural. This item has it all, it may remind you of an alien’s head or model of a Zeppelin. When actually a similar example is housed in the Smithsonian Design Museum. This object is dated from the 1930 – 1940 and would have originally sat on top of a WW2 bomber plane and named a Radio Compass Loop Antenna. Made from coated fabric it would have supported the Stirling bomber to find its route and guidance as it flew in the air. A highly sculptural object recently uncovered from Cambridge university and still in its cast metal support base. A worn-out marking is stamped at the base of this form as shown. Size: H 23” x W 28” x D 10” Origin: English Date: 1930 - 1940 Condition: Good In overall very good condition considering its age and use, without breaks or repair with scuffs and scratches as shown in the photos provided.
