This rare pair of highly sculptural Art Deco cat bookends captures the elegance and stylized beauty of feline form, reflecting the sleek, modern aesthetic of the 1920s and 1930s. Crafted in metal, each cat is seated with its head turned, embodying a striking balance of strength and grace.
The design is masterfully streamlined—rounded ears, subtle impressions of eyes and nose, and muscular shoulders that flow into an elegantly curved back and curling tail. The front legs, almost architectural in their rigid verticality, enhance the statuesque quality of the figures.
Each bookend rests on a simple base marked only with "V.112," with no additional maker’s marks. These beautifully period-authentic Art Deco bookends retain their original paint, which has gracefully aged with time, developing a patina of worn and chipped black paint.
