About the Item

Decorate a man's office or library shelf with this signed antique horse sculpture. Created in France circa 1880, the highly detailed sculpture depicts an elegant racing horse fitted with a saddle and reigns, standing on an oval dark rouge marbles base. The "Objet d'Art" is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich, aged patinated finish. The sculpture is signed on the front by French artist "J. Moigniez". A wonderful accent piece to decorate a man's desk, or to place in any ranch house or hunting lodge! A must for any horse lover! Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animalier (animal) sculptor who was active during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog sculptures and hunting scenes. His bird sculptures were among the finest ever created during his time. Listed in the Benezit (see last picture). Measures: 16" W x 6.5" D x 12" H.
