Antique 19th Century pair of Italian nature morte marble plaques, crafted by Arnoldo Soldini (1861-1936), using the famous white marble sourced from Carrara. One plaque showcases birds and a hare, while the other features a fish and grouse. Each plaque is fitted within a finely carved wooden frame. Both pieces bear Soldini's signature in the lower right corner. Soldini embarked on his artistic journey as a freelance sculptor in 1880, establishing his own studio in Milan. A dramatic patinated bronze statue depicting a mounted crusader on his rearing horse ready to strike a mortal blow to a fallen Saracen lying beneath him on a rocky landscape. In a desperate attempt to defend himself the Saracen is shown thrusting his sword into the chest of the the crusader's horse. The bronze grouping is mounted on a green scagllola painted marble base with gilt bronze trim.
