About the Item
Hand-carved wooden drum from New Guinea, featuring intricate painted patterns in white, red, and black across the cylindrical body. The surface displays symmetrical curvilinear motifs, with stylized face-like elements at each end. The drum includes a carved head with rope detail and a fitted opening on top. A separate wooden drumstick rests inside the body.
The drum is elongated and hollowed, with a raised rim around the opening. The paint is worn in areas, revealing the texture of the wood beneath. The overall construction and decorative elements suggest both functional and ceremonial use.
