Very old statue of a wounded lioness, after an original by French sculptor Charles Valton from the 19th century, this statue has a bronze patina and is made of plaster, first half of the 20th century.
In good vintage condition, a small spot at the back on the black base, but nothing disturbing, check the photos for more details!

A good early cast circa 1910 of Charles Valton's Lioness and Two Cubs, it is a beautifully detailed sand-casting with a rich red-oxide and medium-brown surface patination that highlights the texture of the surface. The two cubs sit at total peace beneath their powerful mother, her head lowered in a low growl as she likely threatens a fellow lion away from the meal of rabbit she has brought for her cubs.
