An agate table switch featuring a small terrier dog. Austria, circa 1900.

About the Item

An agate table switch featuring a small terrier dog. The switch is carved and sculpted entirely in agate and carnelian. The body of the switch has a hexagonal base, the profile rises briefly to then curve towards the center and converge towards the central circle. In it, supported by two metal hoops, is the small sculpture of a terrier made of carnelian. By pressing the button, the sitting terrier dog descends into the switch body, closing the circuit and activating it. On one side of the rise a hole also visible in the transparency of the agate which allowed the entry of the connection cables. Austria circa 1900.
