About the Item

19th Century Anglo-Indian Hand-Carved Wooden Camel Table. The camel was symbolic of endurance and desert trade routes, and was a common motif in Indian decorative arts. This sculptural table features a richly carved, standing camel figure, with a saddle that doubles as a tabletop, creating an exotic conversation piece. The tabletop is shaped like a rolled-up rug or saddle pack with a stable round tray, making this a striking side table or accent piece. Camel rests on a plinth base with a textured diamond pattern, supported by turned feet for stability and presence. Made in British Colonial India, this piece is an exceptional example of blending Indian symbolism with Western functional forms. Pieces like this were often commissioned by British officers or collected by travelers as luxurious mementos of the East. Table is perfect for a global-inspired entryway, an eclectic library, or a dramatic statement piece in an indoor or covered outdoor space.
