Antique European Leather Warpped Hippo Sculpture

About the Item

A handsome large antique hippopotamus sculpture. Hand-crafted in Continental Europe in the early 20th century, most likely English, the richly detailed hand carved patinated leather wrapped realistic rendering depicted standing on four legs, head raised and slightly tilted with mouth opened as if it was roaring at you and displaying four pointy white teeth. Having inset glass eyes, floppy soft leather ears, and well proportioned muscular body with textured detail work. This remarkable figural African animal statue would look wonderful on a shelf, console table or desk in a study, library or office. Wherever it's placed, it's sure to add whimsical elegance, rustic warmth, and charming antique character! Dimensions: (approx) 13" Long, 8" High, 5" Deep Good antique condition with nicely aged heavily worn warm rich dark distressed patina. Wear consistent with age, use, handling and exposure, including minor buildup, rubbing and worn finish
