Antique and Sizable Hand Carved Palmwood Sculpture of A Fierce Tiger

About the Item

Wonderful and large sculpture of a majestic big cat. Over the years we have owned and sold a fair number of beautiful quality sculptures in all kinds of materials, but we never had the pleasure of offering a wooden animal sculpture out of palmwood. This majestic big cat sculpture is a work of art in its own right, but, to us, the multiple, small and darker veins (or grains) in this particular woodtype is what takes this wildlife sculpture to the next level. Some woodtypes simply are not fit for every kind of sculpture, but this particular woodtype is ideal for a tiger sculpture, because the multiple grains in the wood make this tiger look extra and natural(istic). The details may not all be very fine, but it also takes a special artist to get the perfect anatomy and posture across whilst leaving out too many details. We were also especially attracted to the fierce facial features of this unique and entirely hand-carved tiger. Imagine yourself being eye to eye with a force of nature like this. The last feature that needs to be mentioned is that this entire sculpture (including the naturalistic base) was carved out of one log of palmwood. If more people would understand how time consuming and difficult that is (for such a large piece especially) then sculptures like this would be much more expensive. The only damage to this sculpture is a piece of one ear missing (see images 12 and 13) and a few teeth have warn off in some battles he had. However, these minor damages happened so long ago that they don't stand out by means of color differences or otherwise. So, if you like the look and feel of this top-of-the-food chain predator as much as we do and/or if you already have a place in mind for this big cat, then maybe you should be its next custodian. No matter where you decide to have this work of wildlife art on display, he will never fail to impress.
