About

Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875). Élan surprised par un Lynx, circa 1876. Bronze with brown patina 14 inches (35.5 cm) long, 9 inches (22.9 cm) high. Inscribed on base with Barbedienne foundry mark: Barye / F. Barbedienne Fonduer. This is one of Barye's more interactive aggresive nature scenes were a linx has jumped on the neck of a Stag to make a winter feast of him. The chasing is spectacular and the cubist base made stirs in the early salons. This cast was founded by F. Barbidienne, circa 1876.
