Literature:
The French animal sculptor François Pompon spent most of his life working in service of other artists, notably Auguste Rodin and René de Saint-Marceaux. His breakthrough came at age 67 with the exhibition of his famous 'Ours Blanc' at the Salon d'Automne of 1922 in Paris. This sculpture epitomises his pursuit of simplicity, embracing a distinct modernist vision that breaks away from 19th-century ideas. Renditions exist in various formats and materials, including plaster, stone, bronze, and porcelain.
Among these, the most renowned 'Ours Blanc' - executed in marble - has resided in the Musée d'Orsay since 1986.
