About the Item

He was born in Palermo on 3rd August 1900 and died on 15th May 1980. He was son of art, his grandfather was Antonino "pirriatore" of Billiemi and his father Gaetano were refined sculptors of ornate liberty and collaborator of Basile. Geraci takes from his father the first lessons that he continued in the time of apprenticeship carried out at the school of Rutelli and Ugo around the '20s. He continued his studies in Rome at the School of medal art, under the guidance of Giuseppe Romagnoli and won the National Sculpture Retiree for two years. From 1925 he moved to America, worked at the University of Yale and Duke, at Paramount in Brooklin, at the Bronx Paradise. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, at the National New York Museum, at the Challon Galleries. He is also involved in many decoration works until 1931, the year of his father's death and his return to Palermo, where he started an industrious season to which he supported sporting activities, in particular the rowing, describing himself as "the sculptor" from the muscles of steel ". From his stay in Germany, where he adorned the Offenbach stadium with sculptures, Geraci returned in 1942, happily married to a girl named Hildegarde. During the war years and in the first post-war period, he was teaching at the Artistic Lyceum of Palermo. In 1944-45 he obtained the role of teacher of decorative plastic at the Faculty of Architecture of Palermo. He took part in the Venice Biennale of 1942, followed by many national exhibitions and many competitions for public works, including the International Exhibition of Sacred Art in Rome in 1950, in Brazil, in Novara and in 1953 the exhibition of Art in the life of Twelve o'clock. The theme of athletes in the 1940s, Geraci also combines works of different inspiration, including sculptures for the monumental entrance of Via Roma in Palermo, for the Banco di Sicilia and more.
