For the collectors of extremely rare Black Forest animal carvings.
With a combined 35+ years of experience in selling Black Forest antiques we have never seen a pair of table lamps and for them to be of this size, only made this find even more special. However, what makes this set truly amazing is the beaver sculpture. In all our years of buying and selling Black Forest antiques we have never seen one before and to have found this striking and extremely rare example in mint condition truly felt like a blessing. I have spent many holidays with family in Switzerland and I have seen what beavers are capable of. In just one night a beaver is capable of 'chopping' down several trees and on the local golfcourse at my brother's place that is exactly what happened. If you have never seen it in real life than you have no idea how large the chunks are that they can bite off. The strength in their neck and upper jaw must be incredible and the sharpness of those front teeth must be scary. Since these Black Forest beaver and bear sculptures are the exact same size and since they are facing each other, they make the ideal pair to grace your living space, for example standing on top of a large mantel or credenza. So if you are looking for a unique and truly decorative pair of sizable antique table lamps for your lodge, cabin, manor or country house then maybe you should be the next custodian of this once in a lifetime find. With absolutely no damage or restaurations to be found, we have no problem rating these rare antiques as being of museum quality and condition and we don't think we will ever find another pair like this. This large pair will arrive rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage in the country where they will go to and you will always be able to use your regular, local bulbs. In the coming weeks we will look for a new pair of lampshades, because in our view these older ones need replacing.

This majestic eagle with both claws is holding a perfectly hand carved branch and from each of the four side branches grows a hand crafted, blackened metal, flower lampshade. The large size of this eagle, his perfect body posture, his excellent and warm patina and the great details really make this well balanced sculpture a marvelous antique to own, to use and to look at. The way in which this fierce predator is sticking out its neck and scanning the area with its piercing eyes is something that only a true master carver is capable of creating. To us, this unique and sculptural Black Forest chandelier is the perfect center piece for a hunting lodge or for a Black Forest collector's 'treasure trove' or 'inner sanctum'.
