This listing features a patinated bronze sculpture of an African elephant by the artist David Schaefer. Signed 'D. Shaefer' to base, copy 306/450.
This sculpture was made using an ancient method called lost-wax casting, also known as investment casting-- is a process in which a duplicate sculpture is cast from an original sculpture. This process allows for more intricate works.
David Schaefer has lived in Kenya for around 40 years, where much of his inspiration comes from. Being an outdoorsman his entire life, David has gained intimate knowledge of his subjects and carefully creates animal sculptures with the goal of breathing life and character.
