Bronze sculpture realized by Virgilio Guidi in the 1970s, representing two lovers. The sculpture is in very good conditions, the wood base has some fades and minor tracks of time. Virgilio Guidi (Rome, April 4, 1891 - Venice, January 7, 1984) was an Italian painter, poet and essayist. The one who has been called the poet of light has followed complex but coherent research paths, within a figuration that sometimes reaches the limit of abstraction. In short, Guidi affirms himself as an undisputed protagonist of the Italian artistic life. These replica sculptures were extremely popular in the Victorian era and were done by many artists. This pair is in wonderful antique condition with no outstanding flaws we have detected. Most were never signed but show the original signature of Coustou on the base, as do these. They were commissioned by Louis XV of France for the trough at the entrance to the grounds of his château de Marly. Coustou's last works, they were intended to replace two other sculpted groups, Mercury on Pegasus and Pegasus, Renown of Horses, both by Antoine Coysevox...
