Edgar William Brandt Art Deco Wrought Iron Snake Desk Weight

About the Item

A stylish Art Deco wrought iron snake desk weight in the brutalist style by renowned ironworker and designer Edgar William Brandt (French, 1880 – 1960) and dating from around 1925. The heavily made snake is made from a length of square cut wrought iron with the lower body coiled and a graduated tail which has been tightly coiled. The snake raises its head and body from the centre with its mouth open revealing it’s tongue. The body has a simple incised line patterning to the raised element with simple eyes outlined to either side of the head. The wrought iron has surface rust as is common with these untreated metal pieces and believe that the body may be signed under the rust. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market In presentable condition with natural age corrosive surface wear.
