Important Bronze scupture “Couple of Lionesses”, by L. Riché – Early 20th
About the Item
Large bronze sculpture with a brown patina and golden highlights, signed on the base: L. Riché.
A renowned animal sculptor, Louis Riché (1877-1949) left his mark on his era with the precision of his work and his passion for felines. This talented artist has created a captivating work here.
Two lionesses cling to each other, their powerful bodies at rest. Lying down, one of the lionesses rubs its head, showing its affection. The second, seated, seems to roar. With her ears lowered, she wrinkles her features and reveals her carnivorous teeth.
Meticulously detailed, this scene, which one imagines to be set in the African savannah, testifies to the artist's love for these charismatic animals.
This unique work will delight lovers of animal art.

Louis Riché
Louis Riché is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the Alsatian, with a large series of figures capturing the personality and gait of the canine. A prolific Animalier, Riché studied under sculptor Georges Gardet and started exhibiting at Salon 1896, where he continued to exhibit regularly, though pausing from exhibitions during both World Wars. While a large portion of his work was cast with Thiebaut Frères, he partnered with numerous major foundries of the era, including Colin et Cie, Jollet et Cie, Risler et Carré and Societe des Bronzes.
