About the Item

This is a very old Japanese "si-si" mask made in the middle to late Edo period. (Japanese ``si-si'' is an imaginary animal that deifies a lion.) It is thought that materials such as cypress are used. This mask has been a tool used during festivals at shrines since ancient times. As for how to use it, humans dance with this "si-si" mask on. Originally, the mask of ``si-si'' is made by inserting hemp or animal feathers into the top of ``si-si'', wearing it on the head, and hanging a drum from the chest and beating it, Butoh dancers went around the village and danced. It is used to bring good luck and ward off disasters in the home, and to pray to the gods for a bountiful harvest and the prosperity of descendants. This item is very well sculpted, and the majestic appearance of "si-si" is well represented. Also, the tips of both ears are partially missing. And there is a glued mark on the left face from the upper chin to the eyes. However, it is in relatively good condition for a “si-si” mask, and there is no problem in viewing it. It is a highly recommended item. Also, since the same old "si-si" mask from the Edo period was published in Shishi's art book, I will post it here. How about displaying one in your home as a talisman. Also, I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so I set the price reasonably. Weight: 0.9kg.
