About the Item

Finest quality and wonderfully elaborate Schwarzwald barometer from the Arts & Crafts era. If you are looking for a remarkable antique to grace your study, lodge or hunting cabin then this early 20th century work of art could be flying your way soon. All hand carved out of solid wood this barometer was made in the Black Forest region of pre world war I Germany or possibly just across the border in Switzerland. There is so much going on that you will keep finding details that you had not noticed before. With this antique being hand-crafted in an era when there was no television and hardly any photography, hand carved sculptures like this were one of the 'story tellers' and that is exactly what this antique is showing us. This seasoned hunter is in full hunting gear and crossed on his back he is wearing his favourite walking cane and rifle. Since he is complacently smoking his antique Black Forest pipe, we feel that he is very pleased with today's result. The partridge at the bottom could very well be the reason why this hunter is enjoying a smoke. His four legged friend on the right and the wild hare on the left are some of the other marvelous carvings in this work of art barometer. Have you also noticed the log shaped 'house' of the thermometer and the fine floral carvings towards the bottom?
