Life-Size Italian Seated Whippet, 1960s

About the Item

An outstanding cast plaster seated whippet dog statue, of grand scale. The majesty and elegance of greyhounds have always fascinated artists who have been using them as models for almost five thousand years. Displays wonderful attention to detail, life-size representations of this majestic being, stern, watchful and obedient at the same time. Face slighly looking to the left, having tassel adorned collar and resting on a comfortable-looking blue cushion/pillow adorned with tassels in its corners. Nicely detailed casting, the finish looks to have been applied by handand, attractive from all angles. Unmarked but likely of Italian origin. With it's elegant silhouette and warm colors, this mid-century Italian whippet dog statue would make a stately addition to any room, particularly a den or a traditional living room. Great conversation piece!
