About the Item
A substantial mid-20th century Murano glass toucan sculpture, crafted in the sommerso technique, where coloured layers are submerged within clear crystal. The body combines rich green and golden yellow glass, encased in a transparent matrix, and finished with black glass eyes and a bold amber beak.
This stylised toucan, with its fluid, abstract form, reflects the modernist Murano glass animal sculptures of the period, recalling the work of Licio Zanetti and Formia Vetri di Murano. Both workshops were celebrated for transforming animal figures into simplified, sculptural shapes using layered sommerso glass.
Dimensions: 22 cm high × 17.5 cm wide × 18 cm deep
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor surface wear, small fleabites, and a slight rough area to the underside of the beak tip, likely from the forming process.
