Pair of English Late 19th Century Large Wooden Carved Lions on Bases

About

A pair of large English wooden carved lions from the late 1800s. These large English lions from the late 19th century are made of carved wood. The precision of the carving is quite impressive, the lions' manes are very detailed, and the instrument marks are still visible, evoking hair. The bases consist of two sections: an upper octagon and a lower square. The transition between the two sections is quite well done, the angles have been sculpted, creating a soft passage between the octagon and the square. With their striking attitudes, great proportions and dark and lustrous finish, this pair of tall English carved lions on bases circa 1880 will make a striking addition to any home, perhaps in an entrance welcoming visitors or in a living room framing a fireplace.
