Pair of French 18th Century Porcelain Signed Statues of Hawk-Headed Parrots

About the Item

A striking and most charming true pair of French 18th century De La Courtille porcelain signed statues of hawk-headed parrots. Each wonderfully executed parrot is raised by a lovely trunk and branch designed base with charming moss growing on it. Each intricately detailed parrot displays beautiful vibrantly colored and finely detailed plumage. Extremely decorative and wonderful attention to detail throughout. Being amongst the rarest and most unusual pet birds today, the Hawk-Headed Parrots are intriguing and highly intelligent pets. They are well known for their deep and complex personalities, bossy behavior, and most of all – their intricate and amazing looks. La Courtille Hard-paste porcelain factory was founded in 1772 by Jean-Baptiste Locré in an area of Paris called La Courtille. Locré was joined by Laurent Russinger in December of the same year. By 1773 the factory had registered its mark of two crossed arrows with the lieutenant general of the Paris police. In 1787 Locré sold the company to Russinger. After teaching the trade to his successors, the Pouyat brothers, Russinger retired in 1808.
