Vintage French Hunting Dog and Pheasant Sculpture on Marble Base Signed PJ Mene

About the Item

Decorate a man's office or library with this elegant dog and bird sculpture! Created in France circa 2000 and standing on a thick rectangular black marble base, the composition depicts a proud hunting setter holding a pheasant in his mouth. The large and heavy sculpture is in excellent condition, and adorns a rich patinated bronze finish. A wonderful addition for a ranch house or hunting lodge! Weight 27 pounds. Signed J. P. Mene on the base. Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879), was a French sculptor and animalier. He was considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the nineteenth-century. Mêne produced a number of animal sculptures. He was one of a school of French animaliers which also included Rosa Bonheur, Paul-Edouard Delabrierre, Pierre Louis Rouillard, Antoine-Louis Barye, his son-in-law Auguste Caïn, and François Pompon. Measures: 24" W x 10.5" D x 17" H.
