Aphrodite
About the Item
Once there, I was led to a wonderful place, deep within the august building that I knew so well. This was where the superbly accurate replicas of museum treasures were handmade for eventual sale to visitors in the museum's shop. After presenting them with the parcel from my father, they reciprocated by generously offering me this replica of a classical bust of Aphrodite, which they noticed me admiring.
That was about thirty years ago, and I do not believe that this piece is available any longer from the Met. In a sense it is a quasi-vintage item, though not very old, and a replica -- however accurate -- besides. It is beautiful, and looks chic amongst modern things.
